on the belt buckle, where Level 1 is the lowest belt and Level 22 is the highest. The Title is stated on the right.

The next belt is the 1st degree Brown Belt, corresponding to the Emperor title. In order to be promoted to this belt the following goals must be met:
- a peak rating greater than 1775
- defeat at least 5 opponents rated over 1800
- rating maintained above 1700 for at least 25 consecutive games
- either or both of the following:
- a 1st place finish in at least 3 tournaments in a section of strength 14 or stronger
[NOTE: Occasionally, a 2nd place finish in a particularly large and strong section may be accepted
as equivalent to a 1st place finish for purposes of Title promotion];
- at least 16 unique stronger opponents defeated since last promotion;
Chaitanya Vaidya's next evaluation is scheduled for May 17.
